Minor or major chassis service?
For most suspension components, you can choose between a minor and a major service. The minor service should be performed approximately every 50 operating hours and is important to prevent damage caused by contaminants in the lubricating oil. If your suspension's responsiveness has deteriorated, a minor service is often sufficient.
However, if you also hear squelching noises or the compression or rebound damping settings no longer function correctly, it's time for a major service. Regardless, this should be carried out approximately every 200 operating hours to prevent problems from occurring in the first place.
Depending on usage, the aging of seals and oils can vary considerably. If your bike is frequently ridden on rough trails and in challenging conditions like mud and dust, the suspension will require more frequent servicing than a bike primarily ridden on forest roads in good conditions.
-
During a minor fork service , the fork is disassembled into stanchion and slider units, thoroughly cleaned, the main seals are replaced, and it is filled with new lubricating oil.
-
During a minor shock absorber service , the shock absorber's air chamber is disassembled, which
Seals replaced and filled with new lubricating oil. -
During a major service, the fork or shock absorber is completely overhauled. All components, such as the damping system and air chamber, are disassembled into their individual parts, all seals are replaced, the system is filled with new oil, carefully bled, filled with nitrogen if necessary, and tested for proper function.

Why is regular suspension servicing so important?
Why is regular suspension servicing so important?
Besides the geometry of your bike, the suspension is arguably the most crucial factor for a well-functioning mountain bike. In addition to proper setup – which we're happy to help you with – it's essential that the fork and shock continue to function well in the long term. Since seals wear out over time and the oil becomes contaminated with dust and mud, damage would occur without regular maintenance.
