Battery disposal

Information on the disposal of used batteries

The following information is directed at those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and do not resell them in the form in which they were supplied (end users):

1. Free take-back of used batteries

Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obligated to return used batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can return used batteries to a municipal collection point or to a local retailer. As a distributor of batteries, we are also obligated to take back used batteries. However, our obligation to take back used batteries is limited to those types of batteries that we currently sell or have previously sold as new batteries. You can therefore either return used batteries of the aforementioned type to us with sufficient postage or drop them off free of charge at our warehouse at the address listed in the legal notice.

2. Meaning of the battery symbols

Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out trash can (su). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of in household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005% mercury, more than 0.002% cadmium, or more than 0.004% lead by mass, the chemical symbol of the respective pollutant is shown below the trash can symbol – "Cd" for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.

3. Vehicle batteries

The following special provisions apply to the sale of vehicle batteries (these are batteries intended for the starter, lighting or ignition of vehicles): The seller is required by law to... § 10 BattG The seller is obligated to collect a deposit of €7.50 (including VAT) per vehicle battery from end users if the end user does not return a used vehicle battery to the seller at the time of purchase. The customer receives a deposit voucher upon purchase of a vehicle battery. The customer can return the old vehicle battery to the seller for a refund of the deposit. Due to hazardous materials regulations, shipping the old vehicle battery to the seller is not permitted. Alternatively, the customer can return the old vehicle battery to a collection point established by the public waste management authority. If the used vehicle battery is not returned to the seller who collected the deposit, the authorized collection point according to [relevant regulations/laws] is responsible for the deposit. Section 11 Paragraph 3, BattG The company that accepts the return of the old vehicle battery is obligated to confirm the return to the end user in writing or electronically upon request, without refunding the deposit. In this case, the customer will receive the collected deposit back from the seller, provided they submit written or electronic proof of return to the seller. Section 10 Paragraph 1 Sentence 4 BattG submits a document that is no more than two weeks old at the time of submission.
