The Trek Story – “Born” in a Bar

It all begins in 1975. It is a cold winter when the two bike enthusiasts Dick Burke and Bevil Hogg meet in a bar in Wisconsin for a few beers.

They had only wanted to have a relaxing evening. But before they knew it, they were already discussing why most high-quality bikes at that time were produced abroad and not in America.

The ambition to build special bikes oneself

Dick and Bevil were convinced there was another way. And that very evening they decided to found their own bike brand. The goal: to build high-quality, innovative, and durable bikes from America.

Spring 1976: Make American Bikes great again!

Production started just a few months later – in a barn!

With a small team of five employees, they produced a remarkable 904 handcrafted touring frames in their first year alone. The bikes were a huge success. Trek proved that top-notch bikes didn't necessarily have to come from Europe.

Fun fact: Today, Trek Bikes' headquarters are located just a few kilometers from the old barn.

Impressive equipment for your trail adventures

Let's be honest: We really put our bikes through their paces. The good news: Trek MTBs, and also the new e-MTBs like the Trek Rail+, deliver without a hitch.

Jumps, botched landings, or full throttle over root-strewn sections? No problem. Steep climbs in Boost mode with the Trek E-MTB or Trek Light E-MTB? Child's play. Traction, performance, durability, and ease of maintenance are impressive.

Well-thought-out features and matching parts

The basic components are impressive: Sure, a FOX Factory 36 fork with a Float EVOL air spring and GRIP2 damper is top-notch. But even the basic components of the more affordable models are well-designed and perform flawlessly on the trail.

Bontrager's carbon wheels or the Bontrager Line Comp 30 aluminum wheels easily withstand even rougher conditions. Shimano XT drivetrains or the new SRAM GX Eagle AXS, T-Type rear derailleur, and optional carbon handlebars demonstrate that the Americans have also considered aspects beyond the suspension.

Overall, the equipment is fair and good. The highlight for us, however, is the fantastic mountain bike frames. Especially with the entry-level models, they provide an excellent foundation for later upgrades.

Internal guide channels and bolted-on downtube protection for the MTB frames 

Trek uses a truly generous downtube protector made of durable plastic. Where other manufacturers skimp on the material, the Americans play it safe. The downtube protection is so extensive that Trek carbon frames (and also Trek aluminum frames) can easily withstand bumpy shuttle rides in old pickup trucks.

A well-designed chainstay protector ensures peace of mind even on rough tracks.

Nice: Trek neatly routes the cables through internal channels in the frame. This keeps everything quiet and prevents scratching the paint.

Downtube storage compartment for carbon and aluminum frames

Fast, durable, and incredibly precise on the trail. Whether mountain bikes or e-mountain bikes: these bikes impress across the entire model range with innovations. They are uncomplicated mountain bikes that can handle just about anything you throw at them.
